ANNOUNCEMENTS

DreamCatcher Readership Survey!

Hey guys! I created a little survey to see what kinds of folks I have reading this comic, and I'd really appreciate it if you could take a couple minutes to fill it out! You can find it here!

OTHER PROJECTS

If you like DC for its writing and characters, check out my webnovel Kody over on Tapas! It's got vampires who are mortal, were-creatures that aren't wolves, and some reluctant humans that have to put up with them all.

Would you still read DC if it moved away from a traditional comic format? (There would still be art.)

Chapter 22: Page 13

September 1st, 2014, 11:00 am

I Say...

Hazumirein says,

You know, I really need to work on my panel/speech bubble layouts for readability's sake because things always look out of order when I re-read the pages

Question of the Update: Clearly Ade doesn't really know what Dae's talking about at the bottom there; I think it's pretty obvious but what do you think the "competition" thing is about?

ALSO: See the announcements box for stuff concerning chapter summaries, and I will announce the QotU contest winner for August later today when I've had a chance to count everything up and pick someone.

EDIT: QotU winner for August is ZZ Digital! (Promise I didn't rig that dude, you just comment a lot.) Shoot me a PM or email to claim your sketch request (as if I don't already owe you for the chapter summaries :P).

And You Say...

MCSE (Guest) says,

Will this last much longer?

Will this DBZ-ish, super-badguy moment last much longer? I really came here hoping to get away from this over-used, tired, old trope found in so many other comics.

Hazumirein says,

@MCSE: Depends on what you mean by much longer. The whole ordeal goes on for another chapter or two, which isn't a whole lot in terms of page count, but when I'm only getting two pages a week up it does seem kind of slow.

There aren't a lot of action scenes that last more than a couple pages in the comic as a whole, though. Sometimes it's just necessary to get the story where it needs to go.

DAH!! I can't stop!! XD

Speech Bubble Practice

I do agree that it is often confusing for me to figure out the flow of your pages. It's somewhat like decoding, which can get tiresome. This doesn't happen all the time, but has been more frequently as you begin to experiment with paneling (which has been more fun for me than frustrating by the way). I can already tell you are going to be a genius when it comes to drawing action scenes in the near future.

Anyways, my absolutely favorite paneling/speech bubble tutorial is by Little Rivkah on Live Journal. It is short and sweet, yet chocked full of useful tips to put into practice. I would highly recommend checking it out.
Part 1: http://lilrivkah.livejournal.com/168859.html
Part 2: http://lilrivkah.livejournal.com/169915.html
The first focuses on creating the illusion of time through paneling.
The second stresses speech bubbles and how the layout of the page directs the reader's eye.

TCRanch says,

aotu

well, its gotta be about him outdoing Dae when it comes to getting attention from Riza. also, when will the winner of the question of the update contest for august be announced?

Mama (Guest) says,

Obviously he's competitive about fabulous hair.

Hazumirein says,

@TCRanch: A little later today; I got caught up doing a mountain of homework yesterday and never got around to picking someone.

Soriel (Guest) says,

Hazumi, is it me or are you a sadist against your characters? Pretty sure that every author out there is one too. Pretty sure that the chalenge issued will have a rather interesting result.

Hazumirein says,

@SJNinja: Thanks for the links! I checked that out, it's a pretty good tutorial and hopefully I learned SOMETHING reading it haha.

@Soriel: It is in fact an author thing. Putting our characters in horrible, painful situations is a sign of affection.

Silaya Arctic Prower says,

hey at least hes not the competition for riza, thats a plus right? at least he has SOME chance of getting some. lol jk

LouLouBaBa says,

Competition for girls! And I love the look on Dea face on the last panel

Comments, anyone?
